Thomas W. Ebbesen elected to the French Academy of Sciences

Eighteen new foreign Members were elected at the French Academy of Sciences on Tuesday December 8. Professor Thomas Ebbesen, member of the FRC , was elected in the Chemistry Division.

 

Thomas Ebbesen is professor at the University of Strasbourg, Director of ISIS, a multidisciplinary research institute funded both by the University and the French CNRS and Director of the Fondation FRC. Thomas Ebbesen is also a Senior Member of the Institut Universitaire de France.

 

The work of Prof. Thomas Ebbesen on new optical properties of nanostructured metals have led to the discovery of the enhanced transmission of light through subwavelength holes. His current research is at the interface of nanoscience, photonics and molecules.
